MMST High Performance Program

New this season!

MMST’s High Performance Program

MMST’s High Performance Program (HPP) aims improve the performances of the Team at Provincial and National Championships.

Four elements exist in the HPP:

• Physiotherapy
• Sports Psychology
• Sport Science
• Nutrition

River Ridge Physiotherapy is a large part of the HPP and will tend to athletes on a regular basis, keeping their bodies in optimum condition for training and competition.  Screening techniques employed are similar to those used on Olympic level athletes both domestically and internationally.

Anne Ottenbrite C.M. will be delivering the Sports Psychology component of the HPP.  Anne is Canada’s first and only woman to ever win an Olympic Gold medal for swimming.  Mental skills are an integral part of competing at ones best and Anne has both practical and theoretical knowledge of the challenges swimmers must overcome to succeed.

Nutrition and Sport Science knowledge has increased over the years and with the introduction of devices easily used by trained Physiologist and Coaching staff we can now delve into the workings of the human body to deliver more accurate training programs.  Testing procedures and protocols will be controlled by our own Sheryl Ross B.Kin, M.Kin, B.Ed.  Sheryl has worked with some of Canada’s best athletes at the Centre for Sport at Calgary University and will be bringing her wealth of knowledge to our program.

CRITERIA
The following points outline selection:
• Selections will be made on Sept 1st of the each swim season.
• Top 50 rank in FINA recognised events (excluding Open Water), based on the SNC Power Rankings from the previous season (Sept 1st-Aug 31st)
• HPP Swimmers must be 13yrs and above at time of selection (Sept 1st)
• Maintenance of HP Athlete status requirements:
o 100% Attendance at seminars and specialty pool sessions for HPP athletes
o 3 Strikes rule for unexcused absences from regularly scheduled practice sessions
o Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis, however, excused regular practices will not be allowed to exceed 4 per month without penalty

The successes and failures of the program will continually be evaluated.  As time passes it may be necessary to revisit Selection Criteria and components of the HPP to remain relevant to both the swimming community and MMST’s environment.
