3 years ago a plan was hatched to have John Swan make Olympic Trials. He adjusted his school schedule in order to allow for more rest and recovery throughout his training year. Not only has adjusting his schooling helped with his training in a major way, but his marks have improved dramatically, giving him more options for Varsity Swimming.
Over the past 3 years his training has increased in mileage and intensity. Leading into Trials he regularly swam between 45-50km a week with his biggest week being 60km just before the Christmas break. All that work paid off at the Eastern Canadian Championships in mid February when John swam his way to a 2:05.38 for the 200 Butterfly. At Olympic Trials, starting this Tuesday 27th March, he’ll race in the 200 Fly on Wednesday and in the 100 Fly on Saturday, entering with a time of 56.34.
It’s a great accomplishment by Swannie and I know he’ll represent MMST the only way he knows how… By competing at his best and putting in a huge effort in both events. I know the experience is something he’ll treasurer forever and will help him in future meets, both with MMST and his future Varsity Team.
Good Luck Mate!
